March 10, 2016 - AIME

Daniel Shen, Benjamin Park, Grant Stenger

Daniel Shen, Benjamin Park, and Grant Stenger participated in AMC10/AMC12 and qualified to participate in AIME.
February of each year, approximately 200,000 students (mostly high school students) participate in AMC10 and AMC12 throughout the country. Of those students, about 5,000 top scoring students are invited to participate in AIME, the American Invitational Mathematics Examination. This year, three of Apex's mathletes were among them: Daniel Shen (8th grade), Benjamin Park (9th grade), and Grant Stenger (11th grade). Being invited to AIME is a great honor and in March, they will participate in a 15-question contest over a three-hour period. If they do well at AIME, they will be invited to participate in USAMO, the United States of America Mathematical Olympiad, which is a six-question, nine-hour mathematical proof examination spread over the course of two days.
Congratulations and good luck to Daniel, Ben, and Grant!

March 23, 2015 - AIME

Daniel Shen, David Yang
David Yang and Daniel Shen participated in AMC10 and qualify for AIME (American Invitational Mathematics Examination).

February of each year, approximately 200,000 students, mostly high school students, participate in AMC10 and AMC12 throughout the country. Of them, about 10,000 top scoring students are invited to participate in AIME. This year, two of Apex's mathletes were among them. Being invited to AIME for high school students is a very high honor. It is even more remarkable that Daniel Shen and David Yang are both only in 7th grade. In a typical year, less than 3% of AIME invitees are 7th grade or lower. That would mean, of 10,000 students, 9,700 students are 8th grade or above and they are two of only 300 who are 7th grade or lower. This is a truely remarkable achievement for both of them!.

Congratulations David and Daniel!

Special congratulations to Grant (7th grade) and Ryan (8th grade). AIME is mostly for high school students and very few middle school students qualify. In 2010, approximately 65% of AIME qualifiers were 11th and 12th graders, 30% were 9th and 10th graders, and 5% were from 8th graders and under. This is a remarkable achievement based on the fact that less than 5% of AMC10/12 takers qualify for AIME!

Grant Stenger. Congratulations for qualifying for AIME as a 7th grader

Ryan Jiang deserves a special congratulations. Ryan was invited to AIME last year as a 7th grader. He made it again this year as an 8th grader. 2 years in a row! A remarkable achievement! Both times as a middle schooler.
