Apex College Prep announced today that 3 of its students have qualified for AIME including an 8th grader.

American Mathematics Competitions (AMC) announced today the final results of the 60th annual AMC12 and 10th annual AMC10 contests.  3 students from Apex College Prep were among the winners who are invited to participate in the 27th annual American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME) on March 17th.  Congratulations to these winners:

Stacy Jeong – 8th grade
Yun Park – 10th grade
Daniel Yi – 12th grade.

AMC 12 is for students in grades 12 or lower and AMC 10 is for students in grade 10 or lower.  In 2008, there were over 250,000 students from over 4,200 US and international schools participate in the contest.  Out of these students, only about 10,000 high scoring students, top 1% of AMC10 and top 5% of AMC12) are invited to participate in AIME.

AIME is the second stage of successive competitions to qualify for IMO team which will represent the US in the international Math Olympiad contest.  It is invitation only event and a great honor to qualify even among the top high school math students.  Some college application such as MIT and Cal Tech, ask for AMC and AIME scores.

It is even more remarkable for an 8th grade middle school student, Stacy Jeong, to qualify for this prestigious honor.  AMC contests are difficult even for high school students and attracts only the brightest math students nationwide.  In 2008, of the AIME qualifiers, less than 5% were 8th graders.  Great job, Stacy!
